Mazatlan
As the closest Mexican resort to the United States Mazatlan is a popular tourist destination. The beaches are of course the main draw but they are far from the only one. The resorts are surrounded by a thriving and a vibrant city. There is a great deal of history in the area providing for an excellent opportunity to learn about Mexico's past. The area has near perfect weather all your round so anytime is a great time for a trip to Mazatlan.
The main reason that people go to Mazatlan is for the beaches, there are a number of outstanding beaches located around the city. The ones close to the city are obviously going to be quite crowded but if you go a little ways outside of town you will find yourself on beaches with nobody else around. Of course beaches mean water sports and there are plenty of those in Mazatlan. The area offers excellent snorkelling and scuba diving. It also offers great surfing and fishing. There is a whole host of things that you can do in the water so you can definitely spend your entire vacation on the beach if you choose.
Of course not everybody wants to spend their vacation on the beach and Mazatlan offers a number of other attractions to keep those people satisfied. Unlike most beach resorts Mazatlan is a proper city with everything that you would expect to find. There are plenty of night clubs and restaurants. The shopping is outstanding as well. There is also the chance to see the local culture. Unlike most tourist areas in Mexico where the only people you are going to see are the other tourists in Mazatlan you can spend time with the locals in the city.
One of the biggest attractions in Mazatlan is the local brewery. The largest brewery in Mexico is located in the city and it offers public tours. It is an interesting experience to see how beer gets made. Of course the main reason that people take the tour is for the chance to sample the products.
If seeing how beer gets made isn't really your thing there are a number of other activities that you can do instead. The aquarium is a must visit as it contains many examples of the local sea life; it also has a botanical garden. The archaeological museum is also definitely worth a visit as the area was the home to the Aztecs and there are many displays on the local history. It is also a good idea to take a walking tour of the old town. You can walk by yourself or you can take an organized tour and see all the different architectural styles that have been used in the town over the years. And of course like most Mexican resorts these days there are a number of outstanding golf courses for people who are into that.
