Cancun
Cancun is probably Mexico's most popular tourist destination. The area is known for its outstanding beaches and its world class luxury resorts. Located on Mexico's Caribbean coast the city attracts many tourists each year. The weather is outstanding almost all year round so there is never a bad time to visit. While the beaches are what attract most people to Cancun there are a number of other attractions. Most people are surprised to learn that Cancun was a center of Mayan culture for example. There are lots of reasons to consider a vacation to Cancun.
The main reason that people go to Cancun is for the beaches. The city is located along the shores of the Caribbean so there are a large number of outstanding beaches. These are what attract most people to the area and many tourists are perfectly happy to just lay on the beach for their entire vacation. Of course for the more adventurous there are all kinds of other activities that you can participate in. not surprisingly given that it is a beachfront city water sports are a major attraction. There is world class scuba diving and snorkeling on the Great Mesoamerican Reef just off the coast of Cancun. There is also outstanding fishing and this another major attraction.
As a major tourist destination it should really come as no surprise that Cancun has outstanding restaurants and a vibrant night life. While many people are happy to lie on the beach all day they do need something to do at night. There are all kinds of night clubs in the area most of them are designed to cater to tourists. There are also a large number of excellent restaurants. Shopping is another major attraction of Cancun. Wherever there are tourists there is going to be somebody selling items. In Cancun you can buy almost anything that you could possibly want, from native handicrafts to the latest fashions.
For the visitor who would a like a little bit more out of their vacation than a nonstop party there is the history of the Mayan culture. There are a number of Mayan ruins and archeological sites located nearby. This provides the opportunity to learn about an important part of the history of Mexico. Most of these sites offer tours so that you can get the most out of your visit.
Given that Cancun is primarily built on tourism you wouldn't be shocked to learn that there are all kinds of resorts located in the city. Most of these are luxury resorts with all of the amenities. Most of them include things like golf courses, many of them of outstanding quality. The one thing that is lacking in Cancun is budget accommodation. There is very little available for the budget traveler as most of the resorts are of the high end variety. That being said most are still quite affordable so they shouldn't be out of the price range of most people.
